Rincon de la Vieja volcano tour is a perfect day- or half day trip if you want a break from the beach and explore more of Costa Ricas unique nature. This is an active volcano two hours drive north of Tamarindo, close to Liberia. There’s a lot things to do and see around the volcano. One way is to go hiking. We offer two different hiking tours depending of how long you want to walk. If you don’t like to hike at all you can get to the waterfalls by horse or maybe you prefer a rafting adventure in Rio Negro or take a swim in the natural hot springs instead. We personalize the tour after your wishes.

EASY HIKE

Go on a short hike to three different waterfalls. We start with Catarata Oropendula, a tall and powerful waterfall. The trail is wide and easy to walk. It takes around 10-15 minutes to walk one way. The second waterfalls is another 10-15 minute walk to Catarata Rio Negro. You can take a bath in the volcanic hot springs here if you want. The last portion of the hike goes to Cataratas las Chorreras. This hike is a bit longer and the trail is a little steeper. It takes 30-45 minutes each way. This is the most beautiful of the three waterfalls providing the opportunity for a refreshing swim. We bring drinks, sandwiches and snacks to eat a lighter meal while watching the waterfalls.

It is also possible to visit one of the activity centers in the area. Choose from a variety of adventures like, canopy, white water rafting, horseback riding, hot springs and mud bath. Ask for more information.

Price:  From $125/person  (Includes transportation, to the National park and the waterfall, cold drinking water, sandwiches and snacks are included.)

ADVANCED

If you want a longer adventure this option is for you. The 5,1 km (one way) hike will take us to the beautiful waterfall La Cangreja in the Rincon de la Vieja National Park (Las Pailas entrance.) You can go for a refreshing swim in the waterfall and if you are lucky it is possible to see wild animals around the trail. It is optional to do an shorter hike afterwards, The Las Pailas trail (loop), to see the hot mud and smoke for the active volcano.

This tour starts at dawn and we are back to Tamarindo around 3pm. Total time of 7-10 hours.

Price:  From $150/person (Includes transportation, to the National park and the waterfall, cold drinking water, sandwiches and snacks are included.)
