Johanna is a mogul skier from Sweden. She traded her skis for a surfboard and traveled to Costa Rica for the first time in 2012 in the search for waves and a more relaxed way of life. This journey opened her eyes to the incredible opportunities life offers if you live with an open mind and open heart. The following year, she returned to Central America to explore Nicaragua and complete a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. Afterward, she made her way back to Costa Rica, where she met Flash and decided to make Costa Rica her home. The transition from snowy slopes to sandy beaches felt natural for Johanna, who found joy in the rhythm of the ocean and the warmth of the tropical sun. While she loves surfing, she is also a yoga instructor in different styles of yoga and a passionate advocate for environmental conservation, participating in beach clean-ups and educating others about the importance of preserving Costa Rica's natural beauty. Her story is one of adventure, passion, and a deep connection to the earth, inspiring those around her to follow their own paths to happiness.
Flash is blond, but he truly represents his Tico heritage. His roots trace back to his grandmother, who is a Chorotega Indian. He found his passion for surfing at Playa Naranjo, famously referred to as Witch's Rock. Alongside with other kids from Liberia, they hiked for hours through the national park, carrying their boards to ride the waves by the magic rock.
At 15, he moved to Playa Marbella, seeking a beach lifestyle where he could surf everyday. He later relocated to Tamarindo to work as a surf instructor at a surf camp. In May 2016, Flash left the camp to begin a new adventure, leading to the creation of Ocean Tours Costa Rica.
With over 20 years of teaching surfing to all levels, Flash is one of the most experienced instructors in the whole country. But that’s not it, he is one of those people that is “Pura Vida” at heart and will always make sure you’re having the time of your life!
Alongside our two little girls, Marina and Melissa, we embrace a life close to nature, where the tide, swell, and wind dictate our daily rhythm. We strive to catch our own fish, enjoy locally sourced food, and approach each day with a relaxed, stress-free mindset.
